Why am I on the computer blogging when I should be sitting on the piano seat, playing out my Bach and Reverie for all I'm worth?
But I shall compromise, and this shall be a short post. :)
I eat my words of the last post. Well, some of them anyway. The screening of Mozart's The Magic Flute was so stunning I have no choice but to eat my words, smeared with chilli and ketchup and dipped in lime.
Pa-pa-pa Papagena!
I loved the Queen of the Night truly. Well, figuratively. I'll bet my entire tsubasa collection that she was a coloratura soprano, what with her executing rapid high trills and her first aria hit the highest note in the entire opera.
Papageno was was brilliant. I adored his cowardly character and his witty rebuttals to the priests, and his beginning futile search for a sweetheart, or a "buxom lovebird" as he put it.
The three ladies in waiting were amusing, fighting over Prince Tamino's attention, each trying to put herself in the limelight. The masks scared me somewhat though. haha.
All in all, this was so much better in comparison to Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, which I watched live, but perhaps my preference has something to do with the fact that I was sitting in the topmost circle during that particular performance.
Not exactly the best view I assure you.
But I was surprised that I enjoyed The Magic Flute so much, despite both operas being opera buffas. There's something so appealing about witty and rhyming lyrics delivered with music, and with music nearly continuous thoughout the show, there is much to admire besides the characters and plotline. :)
