Friday night was awesome, with tackle duck duck goose and spoons XD (we love our violence) but the main highlight of the night was the special farewell to one of your youth leaders. He will be leaving wensday for india, to volunteer as a teacher in an orphanage called Joybells.
Joybells is located near the town Dehradun, the capital of Uttaranchal, roughly in the north west of india. The school is still under development, but is able to accommadate up to 53 children including teachers and staff so far. The children usually come from nomadic villages, and range from 5 to 11 year olds.
The trip one would take to this orphanage is highly dangerous. It would be a rougly 15 day trip by train and truck, from delphi to the orphanage. The mountain ranges that would be needed to be crossed, range from 10,000 ft to 18,000 ft. The orphanage sits on the side of a mountain roughly 18,000 ft, almost the height of mount everst base camp.
The orphanage was founded by a chrisitian woman named joy, and ever since she opened her first orphanage in the north-eastern part of india, which consisted of about 400 children, she has repeatedly been prosecuted for her faith and her cause. She then moved to her current location, in hopes of a better enviroment.
The joybell project in Dehradun has been in the works since 2006, it plans to devlop another building, to accomadate more children. There have been volunteers mainly from the UK and Canada so far, but hopes to expand out.
