The day had been cold, too cold for going out. The park was empty, and only a few grounds keepers wandered the park. Walker’s watch read four thirty-seven; he had hoped not to be late. Tier five was the section of the park meant for trees, tall trees that reined almost thirty feet off the ground. It provided a secluded area, away from the bustling noise of the city. The tier was roughly thirty minutes into the park right in the epicenter of it all. As Walker entered the tier he suddenly noticed that all was quiet. There were no more grounds keepers, or the odd tourist, it was completely silent, almost desolate, almost as if he was in a different reality. He took a seat at the nearest bench and looked at his watch.
“Four fifty-nine…,”
“You’re early Walker.” The voice came from behind.
Walker sprang to his feet. “Who the hell are you? And what the hell do you want from me?” his voice in distress.
“Relax friend, remember, I did save your life, twice actually, I hope you haven’t forgotten.” The stranger paused for a bit. “You will know who I am soon enough, but the real question really is who are you?”
“What are you talking about? I don’t even know how you know my name, what else do you know about me?”
The stranger smiled. “Walker Farla of the 41st special and rescue battalion, you have been serving since you were sixteen and have spent many long years out of Rabona, your hometown, until recently you were sent to this desolate reigon, to find that the town had been overrun by the undead scourge. You have experienced various scary experiences of out of the ordinary comas in which you were present to reality but unable to react.”
Walker did not know what to say. “Why did you want to meet me?”
The stranger looked directly into his eyes, “there are many things in motion as it is, you only understand so little.” His look now more serious, “trust no one friend, it will lead to your demise.” The stranger took a step back, “General Isanbak is plotting a military takeover and he has started by abolishing the council.
“I don’t believe you, Isanbak would not never plan such—“
“Treachery? Perhaps you think he is an honorable man, but even power can corrupt such characters, yes?”
Walter’s face tightened, “but how is this possible, Isanbak has no authority over the council.”
“Correct you are, but he is using Diver as a tool in his schemes. Isanbak accused the council for the spawns of undead that have consumed many regions of Arcadia. Cornelius has been tricked, he does not know this yet, but as soon as Isanbak no longer needs him, Diver will be taken out of the picture.”
“How do you know all this?” Walker had a look of curiosity.
The stranger turned his back, “you’ll find out soon enough.”
A mist overcame him as he started walking away.
Walker ran after him, but he was nowhere to be found. He now knew what had to be done, and he only hoped he wasn’t too late.
