“Ash? That was his real name?” Isabella’s eyes gleamed with the excitement of a five year old.
“No, but he did adopt it as a ‘referral’ name, he was not lying about having no name.”
“Blade master?”
“An ancient art of sword wielding, some believe that it derived from the Yuko tribe itself. The art was extremely difficult to master, and took an entire lifetime to do so as well. The level of skill is measured in Dans, ranging from First Dan, to Fifth Dan.” Kimao paused to check for nearby patrols. “It was said that only the immortals could achieve the highest honor, for obvious reasons.”
“And the elite samurais?”
Kimao’s expression turned cold, as if it reminded him of something terrible and dark. “The elite samurais were a secret service employed by the royal family at that time. They would handle several dangerous operations, including reconnaissance, sabotage, and assassinations. The elite samurais were compromised of the most skilled warriors in the land. The battalion was headed by blade master Luhij; he trained the battalion to be the most unstoppable force in the kingdom.”
“But if they were the most skilled warriors, wouldn’t that mean…”
“They were immortals. They kept themselves on a low profile, and the battalion would work in secrecy to keep their secret from spreading. The royal family was respectful of the immortal’s nature, and disallowed any publicity of the samurais.”
