The automobile impact on the 21st century city

Just for you howard haha

Modern culture largely revolves around speed; trains to work, bikes to school, and planes to countries. The speed at which our culture runs at is phenomenal. In the past hundred years, we as a people have strived to innovate technologies to quicken the pace at which every runs. Time is money after all. The automobile was invented in 1896. Its top speed slower then a regular person's walking pace. The automobile had quickly evolved into the speed demons they are today. The average car of today is now more then fifty times more efficient then its first predecessor in 1896.

But how has the car really impacted city life and general lifestyle of people? Ever since capitalism, the car industry has always been a swiftly changing market, with a new model coming out every two to three months. Not to mention the markets that benefit from a gas guzzler like the car. Oil companies, the creation of gas stations, creating jobs and a whole new section in the world economy. But the car doesn’t always have a positive effect. Global warming and pollution has become evident that the main cause is the car exhaust from the millions of commuters in cities such as New York, los angelus, etc.

Nonetheless, the automobile has indeed impacted much of modern society. Cities grow and span, because people can travel quickly. We can communicate faster; we can drive to other communities instead of relying on our own. We don’t have to walk there, we can just drive there. Speed is everything, and the car isn’t the only thing. The car has indeed brought the idea of speediness to our minds, thus, we span into new ideas. Computers, planes, jets, internet, instant dinners, you want it fast? You got it!
